Another long night at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center ended without the disappointment of previous five-set matches.

The Hawaii women’s volleyball team won in five for the first time this season, narrowly avoiding another bitter defeat in a 26-24, 21-25, 25-10, 25-27, 15-11 win over Portland on Thursday.

A crowd of 3,459 saw Hawaii (3-4) fail to convert three match points in the fourth set. Portland (5-2) scored six of the final seven points to force a fifth set only to see UH close out the match on a 6-1 run.

Cha’lei Reid had a match-high 18 kills and 10 digs and Stella Adeyemi put down the final ball for her 16th kill for Hawaii, which finished with a season-high 18 blocks.

Miliana Sylvester tied a career-high with nine blocks and Bri Gunderson had nine blocks with her 11 kills.
