LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Lexington Fire Department hosted its 13th annual memorial stair climb at Kroger Field on Thursday night to honor those lost on 9/11.
Hundreds of participants gathered at the stadium on Thursday, from first responders to students and community members. Many wore tactical or weighted gear to symbolize the heroes who climbed through fire and debris trying to get others out of the World Trade Center buildings on that fateful day.
Chris MacFarlane with the Lexington Fraternal Order of Firefighters said the crowd was a meaningful sight that shows the lasting importance of the 9/11 attacks.
