DENVER (KDVR) — Officials are searching for a missing kayaker at Carter Lake after receiving reports of a man in the water in distress.
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office said that the call was received just after 5 p.m. on Thursday. The caller said they saw a man in the water near a kayak who appeared to be in distress and who was not wearing a personal floatation device.
An off-duty Loveland Fire Rescue Authority firefighter was in the area, according to the sheriff's office, and began the search for the man. Several agencies responded to Carter Lake and were able to locate the kayak, but not the man.
Search efforts were ongoing Thursday evening with the assistance of Colorado Parks and Wildlife's Marine Evidence Recovery Team.
