ROWENA, Ore. — On June 11, , early in fire season, the Rowena Fire broke out in Wasco County.

Fueled by high winds and dry vegetation, it went on to burn down dozens of homes and charred thousands of acres. Firefighters worked round the clock to get the flames under control.

Three months later, the fire's devastation still lingers on side streets and in neighborhoods. Burned out buildings and rubble cover several lots, with no indication as to when the debris will be removed — or when the rebuilding phase will begin.

For some residents, like Patrick Hollander, it's longer (and more complicated) than he expected. Having lost almost everything, including his three dogs, to the fire, Hollander hoped for a more expedited process, and to be back on his property within months.
