FARGO — The quest to find out if North Dakota State ever wore an all-white football uniform has been long and arduous, costing millions of dollars and thousands and thousands of hours of research. OK that’s a major exaggeration, but it just feels like that.

The answer: Maybe.

Maybe they did when retired Fargo dentist Lynn Marr played for the Bison in the early 1960s. Two team photos that appear in separate years of the NDSU yearbook clearly show the players wearing white jerseys and pants that were either white or a very pale yellow.

Granted, photos are black and white and grainy, but evidence in The Forum archives cannot confirm either way. Lynn can’t recall if they wore the all whites in games, but also know that nobody cared about what players wore in those days.
