ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Multiple Latino celebrations in Rockford, Illinois, have been canceled due to safety concerns amid national immigration enforcement activities.
The Fiestas Patrias event in Levings Park and the 11th Ward Parade and Festival have been called off. Organizers cited the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Chicago and the potential risks to attendees as the primary reasons for the cancellations.
"We just decided to cancel this event for public safety concerns that could exist out there," said Rockford Alderman Jaime Salgado, who announced the cancellation of the 11th Ward Parade and Festival.
