A Brantford mom is raising an alarm about how staffing cuts at schools have affected her special needs son.
Donna King said she learned last week her six-year-old autistic son had gone missing three times from his Grade 1 classroom during lunch breaks.

“We’re at a loss,” King said this week.
“(My son) has elopement issues and I’m just trying to advocate for my kids to be safe at lunchtime.”
While the boy never left the school, King was distressed to learn her son’s class was regularly left unsupervised at lunchtime as a teacher was responsible for going around to monitor six other classrooms.
An email to King from the school principal confirmed the boy’s class was unsupervised at times over the lunch hour and that he had gone missing three times over five days.
