TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - As people remember the deadly attacks on our nation on the 24th anniversary of 9/11, many Tucsonans spoke to 13 News about what the Old Pueblo did to honor those who lost their lives in the days following the attack.

“It was just like, instantaneously, I knew I wanted to do it,” Vita Jacobson said.

On September 15, 2001, more than 12,000 people joined together to form a human American flag at Tucson Electric Park, which is now Kino Stadium.

The image was the first big remembrance held in southern Arizona to honor the victims of the attack and one of the largest human American flags ever recorded, with many people calling it “The heaviest American flag ever,” due to the sheer number of people who showed up to the event.
