WASHINGTON COUNTY -- Washington County is facing a big monetary deficit and a rapidly-approaching deadline.
The Washington County Commissioners presented the budget advisory committee with the proposed 2026 budget.
They also presented a referendum bond that asks voters to approve 11 million dollars to resolve debt.
This comes after a 5 year budget crisis.
These Downeast town’s in the state have been under-taxed due to accounting errors and funds being carried over.
“They were unaudited figures. In any organization. County government, town government, you should not act on unaudited figures. That’s in a sense what they were doing. They would look at what money was left in a line item at the end of the year and just carry it forward to the left," explains Renee Gray, Washington County
