Washington: A suspect in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a Utah university has been taken into custody.

“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. We got him,” Utah Governor Spencer Cox told reporters, naming the individual as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. He has not yet been charged.

Cox said Robinson was apprehended in Washington County, Utah – which is in the state’s southwestern corner about 400 kilometres from Utah Valley University – where he lived with family.

One of Robinson’s family members reached out to a family friend – believed to be a youth pastor or minister – who contacted local police and shared information that Robinson had “confessed” to Kirk’s murder or implied that he committed the incident, Cox told reporters.
