An investigation into the property that was completely gutted by a fire in Perth’s northern suburbs on Friday morning revealed the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery in the garage.

Emergency services responded to a triple-0 call when a fire broke out at a single-storey home on Horticulture Gardens in Banksia Grove about 2.54am on Friday.

Three people had to be evacuated from the home. They were not hurt.

Two vehicles, which were parked at the front of the home, were destroyed.

The fire was contained by firefighters within the hour but not before the roof of the home collapsed, the windows shattered and the rubbish bins outside were melted.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said the battery was not on charge but was at the end of its operational life.
