The Red Sox will be without one of their biggest workhorse relievers for much of the home stretch.

The club announced Friday that left-hander Brennan Bernardino has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a left lat strain and that fellow lefty Chris Murphy has been recalled from Triple-A to take his place on the roster.

The move is retroactive to Sept. 10, meaning Bernardino could be eligible to return in time for the team’s final regular season series against the Detroit Tigers.
