BREWER, Maine (WABI) - Folks took to the streets Friday night to commemorate a political activist after his death.
On Wednesday, activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot while on a college debate tour in Utah.
Kirk gained a large internet following as a political commentator before founding Turning Point USA, an organization aimed at getting young people involved in politics.
In memory of Kirk, large crowds lined the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge with signage and American flags. Many cars passing honked in support.
For organizer Dick Campbell, he says the turnout shows just how far Kirk’s messaging has spread, and how attendees and supporters are continuing to share it in the wake of his passing.
