A second person has been charged in connection with a fire deliberately set inside a Homewood Walmart during a Jabari Peoples protest.

Lillian Jayne Colburn, 26, of Birmingham, is charged with first-degree arson and first-degree criminal mischief.

Police say Colburn on Aug. 22 lit a shopping cart on fire that contained paper towels, rags, hand sanitizer, charcoal bags, small engine fuel, and paint thinner.

The fire happened at the Lakeshore Parkway Walmart Supercenter, and store officials reported the damage at $130,000, mostly from smoke and water.

Previously charged was Birmingham activist Mercutio Southall, who was booked into the Jefferson County Jail Aug. 30 and released Sept. 4 after a judge gave him bond and a word of advice.
