MADISON (WKOW) — Madison city leaders and various community groups are evaluating three new housing proposals aimed at accommodating the city's rapid growth.

The proposed measures focus on facilitating smaller, easier builds and expanding opportunities for housing.

One proposal suggests increasing the maximum heights in what are known as height transition areas. Sharon Johnson, with 1,000 Friends, believes this could be particularly beneficial.

"So if you could build an extra story or two, that increases the number of people, and again, there's a shortage of housing available in Madison, so it does mean being more dense in some locations, and this will allow that to happen," Johnson said.
