Three Celina, Tennessee, pharmacy owners have pleaded guilty in a federal case involving the illegal distribution of controlled substances and health care fraud, TBI reports.
Thomas K. Weir, 65, majority owner of Oakley Pharmacy and Clay County Xpress Pharmacy; William L. Donaldson, 65, former owner of Dale Hollow Pharmacy; and Pamela Spivey, 55, co-owner of Xpress Pharmacy, entered guilty pleas just a week before trial.
Prosecutors say the pharmacies dispensed large volumes of opioids between 2014 and 2019 despite clear signs of abuse, then billed Medicare and TennCare for fraudulent prescriptions. Investigators also uncovered a kickback scheme and the use of fake currency called “Monkey Bucks” to recruit patients.
