COHOES, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany man is facing charges after police said he fired shots at two women on Van Schaick Island on the Cohoes side of the Cohoes/Waterford Bridge. The incident took place just before 12:30 p.m. Friday.

The women told police they were birdwatching when they spotted a man wearing camouflage on the riverbank on Ontario Street. They said he was shooting at birds but then turned the gun in their direction.

The women said they ducked down and heard shots hitting the water next to them and tree branches above them.

Police found Kurt James, 43, of Albany, with a .22 caliber rifle and 50 rounds of ammunition. Another 42 spent shell casings were found where he had been shooting down by the river.
