Russian art and culture is in the spotlight at an interior design exhibition in Moscow.

Isolated from Western brands since the beginning of large-scale fighting in Ukraine, Russian designers turned to classical art and traditional culture for inspiration.

From Lenin busts to a decorative statue of a black cat, nothing was off limits.

Designer Anna Tolmacheva said she tried to insert her perspective and freshness into classical art.

"We love Russian classical art, both painting and graphics, but we want something new," she told The Associated Press.

More than 150 designers from various Russian regions are showcasing their work at the exhibition.

Visitor Sofia Balyakina said she was specifically impressed by the Russian folk style of the designs.

"As a representative of the young generation, I can say that young people like it very much," she said.
