If you’ve installed furniture straps purchased on Amazon to prevent furniture from tipping, check to see who made it, as at least one kind made in China is defective and could lead to injuries if it snaps when a child is climbing on the furniture, a federal agency warns.
Stop using Cranach Hardware’s plastic tip restraint kits immediately, removing any that are already installed, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said in a product safety warning issued Sept. 11.
The federal agency has requested a recall; however, it reported the manufacturer, Cranach Hardware, of China, has not responded.
Testing revealed the furniture straps don’t meet industry standards, according to CPSC, and are defective “because the plastic can break or degrade over time.”
