HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WV News) — A contractor for Triton Construction Inc. was killed early Saturday morning in a work zone accident on Interstate 64 East near Huntington.

The accident happened at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday near mile marker 17.

Jason Hunter, vice president of construction for Triton Construction, confirmed the death.

“Triton is deeply saddened to confirm that a member of our construction team was fatally injured while performing work on I-64 as part of an active highway construction project,” Hunter said.

“First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the employee’s family, friends, and co-workers during this incredibly difficult time,” he added.

Hunter said the company has offered the family and its team members support, including counseling. Triton is cooperating
