AUBURN — Following Auburn football 's 31-15 victory over South Alabama on Saturday, Sept. 13, Hugh Freeze noted that his program had "several" players sidelined for the contest.

"Some probably could have played," Freeze said, "like Malcolm (Simmons), or Rayshawn (Pleasant), or Champ (Anthony) . But it was probably best that they not."

A couple of answers later, the list of injuries only grew.

Running backs Damari Alston and Durell Robinson Jr. were already considered unlikely to see the field with injuries, as was Anthony. But Simmons and Pleasant were both unmentioned scratches heading into the game. Then there were the injuries that transpired against the Jaguars .
