MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Backyard Brawl already didn’t start well for Pitt football, and the team took another hit. All-American Desmond Reid is unlikely to return due to a lower-body injury, according to the ESPN broadcast crew.

Reid is the Panthers’ top running back and top punt returner. His last carry came on the third drive of the game during the first quarter. He had just six carries for 30 yards. The senior didn’t take a single rep on special teams.

This is a major loss for the Panthers. Through the first two games of the season, Reid compiled 112 rushing yards and 105 yards on the return. He was the leading rusher last season with 962 yards.

Second-string running back Juelz Goff has been taking the reps at running back. The redshirt freshman had just 1 rushing yard at the half. H
