CHAPEL HILL — UNC football got big performances from its defense and running back Demon June against Richmond in a 41-6 victory at Kenan Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 13.

In Bill Belichick’s first home victory as a college coach, the Tar Heels (2-1) got three takeaways and more than 100 rushing yards from June to separate themselves from the Spiders (1-2).

Linebacker Mikai Gbayor was the star of the second-half surge, snagging a scoop-and-score touchdown on a fumble early in the fourth quarter to help UNC post its best defensive performance in a two-game stretch since allowing a combined six points against East Carolina and Idaho in 2012.

It was Richmond’s fewest points against an FBS opponent since a 16-0 loss to Virginia in 2008.
