OMAO (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man is in serious condition after a crash on Kaumualii Highway near the Omao Track on Saturday.

According to the Kauai Police Department, at around 6 a.m., a 60-year-old man was driving west on Kaumualii Highway on a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) when it was hit from behind by a truck, which caused the UTV to collide with the westbound shoulder embankment and roll onto its side.

Police said the UTV driver was then ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.

KPD said he was taken to the hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.

The truck driver, a 20-year-old Koloa man, was not injured.

Kaumualii Highway was closed in both directions for about two hours.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police said that speed and impairment
