An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 struck near Dhekiajuli in Assam at 4:41 pm on Sunday, sending tremors across the Northeast and several neighbouring countries.
The epicentre was located about 16 kilometres from Dhekiajuli.
Tremors were felt in Shillong, Jowai, and other parts of Meghalaya, as well as across Assam. The quake was also experienced in Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Bhutan, and southern China, according to Android-based alert reports.
No immediate reports of casualties or major damage have been received.
