ANN ARBOR — Biff Poggi has been a head coach. He knows the routine, how to handle a team, practices, the sideline and the postgame news conference.

But this was unlike anything he’s done.

Poggi, an associate head coach to Sherrone Moore, filled in as acting head coach in a 63-3 defeat of Central Michigan on Saturday at Michigan Stadium while Moore was at home watching the game with his kids. Moore sat out the CMU game and will miss next week’s Big Ten opener at Nebraska as part of a self-imposed suspension stemming from an NCAA investigation into an illegal scouting scheme. Moore, who also will be suspended the first game of 2026, had to leave the team at 12:01 Saturday morning and can have no contact with the team until after the Nebraska game.
