Vancouver FC came within seconds of claiming a win in Victoria, but a stoppage-time equalizer from Pacific FC forced the Eagles to settle for a 1-1 draw in the final Salish Sea Derby of the season on Saturday at Royal Athletic Park.
Hugo Mbongue gave Vancouver the lead from the penalty spot late in the first half, and maintained the 1-0 lead for most of the game.
But then, Aly Ndom bundled in a shot in the 94th minute to salvage a point for the hosts.
Despite the late setback, interim head coach Martin Nash saw positives in his side’s performance. “I’m proud of the guys and the way they fought,” Nash said. “It’s a good game to have, a derby, before we go and play a tough game on Thursday.”
