Tokyo: Oblique Seville was so slow out of the blocks in his heat he was sledged by the stadium commentator.

Jeff Wightman the Briton who was also the stadium commentator in Eugene Oregon when his own son won gold, observed Seville was fortunate to recover from his slow start.

“He came out of the blocks like he was towing a caravan”. He still ran sub-10, so it was a nifty little Jayco.

Reigning world champion Noah Lyles was less kind.

“Yeah I knew that was going to happen (to Seville). That man was panicking at the back, but he’s a gamer so hopefully he will get it back and we will have a great final,” said Lyles displaying greater insight into others than self-awareness.
