Virginia Tech plans to fire fourth-year coach Brent Pry , hours after an embarrassing 45-26 loss to Old Dominion dropped the Hokies to 0-3 on the young season.
ESPN's Pete Thamel reported the news on Sunday, Sept. 14, following the loss to the Monarchs.
Pry, 55, will likely be the second coach to be fired in the Bowl Subdivision. UCLA fired DeShaun Foster earlier in the day on Sept. 14. Once rare, such early-season firings have become more prevalent in the past decade.
Saturday’s loss was the last straw for a tenure that briefly showed promise heading into last season but ends at 16-24 overall and 10-13 in the ACC.
Old Dominion led Virginia Tech 28-0 at halftime and cruised to an easy victory. This was the Hokies’ second loss to the Monarchs under Pry.
