When the Virginia Tech Hokies hired Brent Pry to succeed former head coach Justin Fuente following the 2021 season after the two sided mutually parted ways, it was expected the former Penn State defensive coordinator would usher in a program revival after losing seasons in three of the previous four years.

Pry head a wealth of college football experience as an assistant, spending 29 years in the college ranks as a defensive line coach, defensive backs coach, special teams coach, defensive coordinator, and assistant head coach with stints at Western Carolina, Louisiana-Lafayette, Georgie Southern, Memphis, Vanderbilt, and Penn State.
