A man, approximately 50 years old, drowned Sunday near the ocean channel at the Marina del Rey Harbor, authorities said.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 8:38 a.m. Sunday to 5517 S. Ocean Front Walk, where the man was seen entering the ocean channel, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

He was located approximately 30 yards from his point of entry by Los Angeles County Fire Department lifeguards, and subsequently taken to another location by firefighter/paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department.

“Unfortunately, the patient was beyond medical help and pronounced deceased on scene,” the LAFD’s Margaret Stewart said.

No further information was immediately available.
