TRUSSVILLE, Ala. ( WBRC ) - This past week marked 24 years since the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil and one of the most solemn days in American history.

We’re reflecting on the lives lost during the 9/11 attacks, including a local hero who died in the Pentagon.

Walking through the memorial, Roy Williams can’t help but think of the sacrifices made by the 227 military service members who are remembered at the Alabama Fallen Warriors monument in Trussville. You’ll find hundreds of dog tags attached to the pillars. Roy’s brother Dwayne is among them.

Major Dwayne Williams died after terrorists struck the Pentagon. Williams was a decorated Army Ranger and paratrooper who served in the Gulf War and was posted to the Pentagon just two months before 9/11.
