ACT Policing is seeking public assistance after a man was arrested for allegedly pointing a replica handgun at multiple people in Belconnen on Monday morning.

Police said the incident occurred about 8.30am on September 15, when police responded to reports of a man walking along Chandler Street with a black handgun. Police allege the man pointed the firearm at buildings, cars, and several members of the public.

Soon after, officers arrested the man, a 43-year-old Belconnen resident.

They allegedly found in his possession what was believed to be a firearm. It was later confirmed to be a replica handgun.

ACT Policing has confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the community.
