With the arrival of the new school year in Cheboygan came some new grade configurations, and school officials said the changes have gone well so far.

The changes were made after Cheboygan Area Schools decided to begin offering a Great Start Readiness preschool program for the 2025-26 school year out of East Elementary School. To free up the needed space, the second grade moved up to the intermediate school and seventh graders moved over to the high school.

Cheboygan Area Schools Superintendent Spencer Byrd said a lot of preparation went into getting the schools ready for the shift in grades, but each day into the new year has gone more smoothly than the last.
