Vernon Broughton made his New Orleans Saints debut this week against the San Francisco 49ers , but his follow up performance will have to wait.

Broughton suffered a hip injury against the 49ers that is expected end his rookie season, according to an NFL Network report.

The Saints used the first of their two third-round picks to select Broughton out of the University of Texas, where he was coached by current Saints defensive line coach Bo Davis.

He was a healthy scratch for New Orleans' Week 1 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, but he was active against the 49ers, playing 24 defensive snaps as part of the Saints' defensive line rotation.

Broughton recorded three tackles in his Saints debut.
