The Walk-In Access program in Minnesota allows individuals access to certain acres for hunting starting this month.
The program is one way the farming and hunting communities continue to come together to share productive land.
The Walk-In Access program was started in 2011 by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. As of Sept. 1, there are more than 37,000 acres open to those with Walk-In Access validation.
The program started as an opportunity to expand hunting opportunities. It can also serve as a means for landowners to cut back on the deer population.
“I know there is some issue with deer depredation, and this does offer hunters a place to go to harvest deer, and that can’t hurt, when it comes to depredation,” said Brian Schultz, Minnesota DNR south regional director.
