A tropical wave in the central Atlantic is poised for development, but the Gulf’s record-warm waters pose the most immediate and dangerous threat to the United States.

A tropical wave moving across the central Atlantic is producing a large area of disorganized showers and storms, and its potential for development is increasing. While dry and stable air is currently keeping the system in check, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) on Monday issued a high chance (80%) of a tropical depression forming within the next seven days, most likely after Tuesday.
