Former Miami-Dade commissioner Joe Martinez was sentenced Monday to nearly 3 years in state prison after he was convicted of using his political power to benefit financially.

Martinez was found guilty in November 2024 of unlawful compensation and conspiracy while serving as commissioner.

On Monday, Judge Miguel de la O said he felt his hands were tied, and sentenced Martinez to 34.5 months on each count, to be served concurrently, with credit for time served.

"I'm sorry it's come to this. I think you know what I think about your history based on what I've put in my order, but I feel like my hands are tied. So at this time, Mr. Martinez is adjudicated guilty and he's sentenced to 34.5 months in state prison on each count. The counts will run concurrent to each other, and Mr. Martine
