STATESBORO, Ga. (WSAV) — The chicken-finger chain Raising Cane's could see Statesboro as the site for a new location.

A zoning variance petition by Raising Cane's Restaurants LLC will be a topic of discussion in the Statesboro City Council meeting on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The fast-food chain is requesting to use the lot formerly occupied by Applebee's on Highway 80 East, previously known as Savannah Road, which would require a total of a 75-foot building setback.

The existing zoning is mixed-use, which would require a 25-foot setback for the building. The proposed project calls for double drive-thru sites and a parking lot that would service the new restaurant.

The City's Planning Commission recommended approval of the zoning variance with a 6-0 vote on Sept. 2.
