DES MOINES, Iowa (KCAU) — Catelin Drey was officially sworn in at the Iowa State Capitol on Monday morning.

Drey was accompanied at the ceremony by her family and Senate Democratic Leader Janice Weiner.

After the ceremony, Drey said she's thankful to those who voted her into the Iowa Senate.

“I’m grateful for the trust voters in Senate District 1 have placed in me, and I couldn’t be prouder to represent them in the Iowa Senate,” Drey said. “I ran because I don’t think that politicians in Des Moines are working to better the lives of children and families. I am ready to get to work, fully funding public education and tackling the affordability crisis plaguing our housing, healthcare, and childcare.”

Weiner said that she is thrilled to have Drey on the Iowa Senate.
