VAN METER, Iowa -- The City of Van Meter issued an immediate ban on lawn watering Monday afternoon.
According to post on the city's Facebook page, a lawn watering ban was implemented due to "excessive water usage" causing the municipal water system to be "under significant stress." The post goes on to say that in order to meet normal demand residents must stop watering their lawns.
Residents who fail to follow the ban could be faced with a several-hundred dollar fine. The notice states that a written warning will be given for a first violation, but residents who violate the ban a second time would face a $750 fine. Any subsequent violation could result in the termination of water service.
