A 12-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a series of violent robberies of homeless or vulnerable people in downtown Toronto last month.
“This was a disturbing crime spree,” Toronto Police Det. Stacey McCabe, of the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit, told a press conference Monday.
“It’s concerning that these young people would be targeting such vulnerable members of our city.”
The Aug. 31 spree involved five incidents including one at 6:08 a.m. that police say turned fatal. A 62-year-old man was sleeping on a bench in the Queen and Bay Streets area when he was violently attacked by two males — one armed with a hammer.
