LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Another union representing Long Island Rail Road workers has voted to approve a possible strike that would bring the transit system to a screeching halt.
A representative of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen announced the results of the strike vote Monday afternoon.
At the same time, all five unions involved in the LIRR negotiations have requested that President Donald Trump convene an emergency board, which would delay the strike by at least 120 days, union representatives said.
"This action does not mean a strike won't happen, but it does mean that it won't happen now," said Gilman Lang, a representative of BLET.
As it stands, but it indicates the coalition of unions could strike as soon as Thursday.
