The Port of Kalama has started to fill up the first building in its Spencer Creek Station development project.

“It’s a big deal for us. This thing has been in the works for about 10 years,” said Dan Polacek, who runs legislative and media relations for the port.

The 70-acre site is located near the Kalama River just east of Interstate 5 off Exit 32.

The site’s first building is nearly complete after starting work in 2023. Polacek said the port expects it to be finished by the end of October.

The building has 16 suites that commercial or light industrial operations can rent. Each ranges from 2,300 to 3,500 square feet.

Polacek said the building is meant to serve smaller local entrepreneurs who can’t fill the port’s 10,000-square-foot warehouses.
