MANKATO, Minn. – A charge of first-degree arson is possible after a house fire Monday morning.
Mankato Public Safety says it responded to a fire call around 4:52 am in the 200 block of Lincoln Street. Occupants of the home say they were alerted to the fire by working smoke detectors and had begun evacuating the home before police got to the scene.
Officers say they entered the house to assist evacuating those who remained inside. No injuries have been reported. Damage to the house is estimated to be $50,000.
Police investigating the fire say they obtained and reviewed surveillance footage from the residence. Based on the footage, a suspect was identified. Police say that individual was later located and taken into custody without incident.
