LEXINGTON, Ky. — Rooster restrictions have been approved for Lexington. The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council approved an ordinance to limit households within the city’s “growth boundary” to one rooster.
The one rooster limit applies to residential and business zones, but does not apply to land zoned for agricultural use.
The new ordinance also increases the fine for anyone keeping a restricted animal from $5 per animal per day to $100 per animal per day.
Lexington’s District 8 councilwoman, Amy Beasley, introduced the ordinance in August, suggesting adding roosters to the list of restricted animals.
Last month, Beasley said, “Roosters are territorial; male roosters fight each other,” Beasley said. “If there’s a limit, it may help enforce non-fighting of the roosters.”
