BEAUMONT, Texas — A 34-year-old Beaumont truck driver received forgiveness from his victim's family Monday as he was sentenced to 10 years deferred probation and six months in county jail after pleading guilty to manslaughter in a fatal October 2022 crash that killed a Vidor man.

Cedric Jerome Fontenot, 34, of Beaumont, pleaded guilty before Jefferson County Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens to second-degree manslaughter in the death of Jonathan Allen Droddy, 32, who was killed when Fontenot's mail truck crossed into oncoming traffic on Interstate 10. The fatal wreck happened in the pre-dawn hours of a Tuesday morning in October 2022.
