The Trafalgar Plan Commission gave a favorable recommendation for the development of affordable senior apartments in an effort to aid in the shortage of senior housing in Johnson County.

The 5.63-acre property located in the commercial business district behind the Taco Bell, near the intersection of State Road 252 and 135 and the request was to rezone the property from commercial business to R-3, allowing for 46 apartment units.

These units will be age-restricted for ages 55 and older and is a multi-family housing development. With 46 units, 34 of those will be two-bedroom units and 12 will be one-bedroom units, with rents ranging from $400 to $1,300 a month.

The total project cost is estimated to be around $13 million.
