College towns are known for bars with sticky countertops, thunderous music and students consuming immense amounts of alcohol. But can they also have a good dive? The New York Times says it’s possible.

In a list released by The Athletic on Friday, ten college bars across the United States were recognized for at least one of three traits: a rich history, patrons who vary in age and a menu that stretches beyond cheap beer and drink specials. The ranking also highlighted the not-so-chic haunts packed with college kids who party until dawn.
