COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A South Carolina prison employee was arrested after allegedly trying to smuggle jewelry teeth coverings, commonly known as grillz, to an inmate.
The South Carolina Department of Corrections said 36-year-old Sharon Elizabeth Smith, of Sumter, was charged with criminal conspiracy. SCDC said Smith was terminated from her position at the Lee Correctional Institution.
Warrants state Smith, who worked as a canteen manager, allegedly conspired with others as part of a plan to bring grillz into the prison. Authorities reportedly found $2,500 worth of grillz inside Smith’s vehicle on Lee Correctional property.
Records show Smith was arrested Sept. 10.
